Since
1975, the Palm Beach Model Railroad Club has maintained a model
railroad layout in a permanent building owned by the South
Florida Fair Corporation. The layout is HO scale, which
is in the ratio of one foot equals eighty-seven feet, or approximately
1/8 of an inch to a foot of actual size. |
There
are approximately 25 club members, some of whom live as far north
as Jupiter and as far south as Pompano Beach.
We
model the area of our country from Virginia south along the coast
of Florida. Our time era is from the 50's to the mid 70's. The model
railroad is the Southern Consolidated System (SCX) combining the
South Coast, Florida Belt and Columbia Bay & Western railroads.
We offer trackage rights to the Florida East Coast railroad and
share motive power with the CSX system. We plan to reach an interchange
agreement soon with the Union Pacific, receiving and freight from
the New Orleans area.Because
the Club layout is in a near constant state of maintenance and improvement,
our members perform various tasks in such areas as detailing, scenery,
wiring, track work, design, lighting, operations, and painting. We
meet regularly on Tuesdays at 6:00 p.m. and at other times as needed.
While the members are concerned about the maintenance and operation
of the Club Layout, all agree that camaraderie, friendship, and
learning from one another are the most important reasons for coming
together as a group. In
addition, our Club members give lectures and demonstrations to interested
community groups that wish to develop an appreciation of our hobby,
and actual railroads as a vital part of American history.
The Club meets Tuesdays from 6:30 to 7:30 at the South Florida Fairgrounds.
For Directions:
The
Club layout is open for viewing during the South
Florida Fair and at other events throughout the year.
